Creative block is a phase when the writer or any creative person is stuck half-way with his creation. This phase is common for any creative person. It drains out their energy in searching for a particular word, symphony or anything else, and stops them from continuing. Pause a Little
People usually write for long hours without taking breaks. This results in creating monotony. Our mind is programmed in such a fashion, that if it is not refreshed from time to time, it stops showing any kind of interest in that particular work. Minds of creative people never get accustomed to the monotonous motions of life. Whenever we are stuck with the problem of a block, it is better to pause a little, take time out. Our brains, like our body get exhausted. The creative block is just its way of telling us that it needs to relax for some time. All we need to do then is pause a little.
Go For a Walk
Change of environment has been proved to be one the best ways to counter a block. Writers are people who are physically immobile. Their thoughts however are not. It is good at times to just give a break to these thoughts and go out for a brisk walk. Going for a walk helps in relaxing your brain. It releases energy boosters in your brain which helps it to rejuvenate. It helps you better with your thinking and opens the block. Sometimes it is best to walk and listen to the voice of nature. A change in environment takes your mind off the pressure and helps you work properly.
Read Your Favorite Book
Unable to write, read a book. Reading not only helps you with your vocabulary but also with your thoughts. At times one doesn’t understand the reason for the block. The best thing to do at times like these is to browse through the pages of your favorite book. Or read something that once inspired you. This helps in clearing creative block. Some words have an immediate effect, while others wait for their turn; for the right time. Flipping through the covers of your favorite books will help you find a way to pass through that phase.
Passion Rules The Game
Writing or any creative field has an inevitable enemy; boredom. At times the passion to go on is all you need to get rid of creative block. Change your mind and think of things that make you happy, once you are out of the monotony, writing will come naturally. The trick here is to just involve yourself in things you like to do.
Read The Dictionary
Usually while writing it happens that we search for a word, which fits in rightly at that place and it doesn’t come to mind. This situation can be frustrating as the writing stops and the writer searches for that perfect word or phrase, which makes complete sense. When encountered with such a problem, keep a dictionary handy near your desk and flip through it. As you flip through the pages, you will find the word that fits in well with the sentence.
Talk To a Friend
A friend in need is a friend indeed! Talking to a friend can ease you and make your mood better again. Creative blocks can be frustrating and calling up a friend or talking to a colleague can make things light and easy. A friend inspires and corrects, so creative blocks vanish with inspiration a mate gives. Talking to your loved ones also helps as it releases feel good hormones.
Listen To Music
Music therapy always soothes you down and relaxes your senses. When monotony sets in, take a 15 minutes break and listen to your favorite song or classical symphonies. They rejuvenate and revive your thoughts, helping you to write and think better. When nothing works, music lends its therapy.
